one experiences a non-lived encounter through a photographers eye
I am reminded of Roland Bartes reference from Camera Lucida where
he speaks about the photograph as an index having been there in
a moment, no matter how fleeting.
When considering this body of work by Alex bi., I'm conscious more so
of the fact that I have not been there in the sense that these images
are unfamiliar yet - familiar to me.
The notion of the encounter as a fleeting moment, yet a moment preserved
as an indicator of the transience and mutability of life allows the
viewer in a self-conscious way to remain hopeful yet doubtful at the
same time for the future of those represented in the frame.
